Spammers overwhelm Google

Spammers have perfected a method for automating pages on Google's Blogger service, a new report from security firm WebSense states.

According to WebSense security analyst Sumeet Prasad, spammers have somehow been able to bypass the field that asks users to prove that they are human. While it's unclear how spammers have managed to defeat Google's CAPTCHA (Completely Automated Public Turing test to Tell Computers and Humans Apart), the threat means that a higher level of risk is associated with Blogger pages, which are traditionally seen as low-risk by antivirus programs. According to Prasad, spammers are now able to use Blogger as a kind of shield against other security software products.

The news means Google will have to redouble its efforts to police Blogger, which is one of the world's most popular blogging platforms and a key point of distribution for AdSense.
